RENESAN: Clouds

A RENESAN in the Railyard presentation in collaboration with the Jean Cocteau Cinema: Clouds. We’ll look at the process by which clouds are formed, how they’re classified by altitude and appearance, and what their importance is in the atmosphere. We’ll explore all the different types of precipitation—hail, sleet, snow, rain, and freezing rain—and their associated clouds. Finally, we'll see the impact of climate change on clouds and the effects of clouds on the Earth's energy balance and climate system. James Kemper (M.S. in meteorology, Florida State University) worked for the National Weather Service for 39 years, developing modeling research to forecast severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and serving as the Alaska regional manager for forecast operations and the tsunami warning program.
