The Evil Dead (1981)

The book is bound in human flesh and inked in human blood.

  • Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly
  • Sam Raimi
  • Sam Raimi
  • 80 minutes
  • Unrated, but it was banned in the UK for a bit, so that should be a heads up.
  • Ashley "Ash" Williams (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend and three pals head to a remote cabin for some good old wholesome fun. In this cabin they find the Necronomicon, whose text can reawaken the dead when read aloud. Do they leave this creepy flesh covered book alone? Heck no! Instead, they unleash a torrent of wicked spirits and demons, forcing them to fight for their lives or become one of the evil dead.

Sam Raimi's original fright fest introduced Bruce Campbell as Ash, beginning a long career for both (along with many others involved in production).

It was followed by Evil Dead 2, which is a complete blast. Both movies are worthy of the big screen, and wouldn't you know it, the good folx at The Beacon are showing Evil Dead 2 October 25, 28, and 29. Check out both films for a spooky and groovy Hallloween season!
