  • Debate the cinematic value of superhero movies all you want, but the first successful Marvel adaptation holds up as a relentlessly entertaining example of how to make big-screen worthy entertainment.

Wesley Snipes is Blade, a bad-ass half-vampire on a mission to destroy the murderous bloodsuckers of the night. But the hunter becomes the hunted when forward thinking vampire Deacon Frost realizes that the sunproof Blade may be the key to resurrecting an ancient blood god.

Snipes brings a lot to the role thanks to his extensive martial arts training and swordsmanship, as well as his natural charisma. Stephen Dorff almost steals the show as the villanous Deacon Frost. Definitely a big screen worthy film.

After seeing Blade, check out Blade 2 in 35mm at The Grand Illusion October 17, 19, 22, and 23. Blade 2 was directed by Guillermo Del Toro, and is a fantastic follow-up flick well worth your time.
